Lucy Andrus has been making music since childhood, beginning with piano, playing the organ in church as a teen substitute, then choral singing in adulthood. Before moving to Chautauqua County, she was a member of the Parkside Choir of Buffalo under the direction of Gregory White, a member of the Parkside Lutheran Church choir, and participated in area concerts with the WNY Lutheran Chorale and the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Mary Louise Nana. With the Parkside Choir, Andrus participated in a Following in the Footsteps of Bach performance tour of East Germany.
In 2007, Andrus stepped into the position of choir director at Tri-Church Parish and has been leading the Church’s vocal choir for the past 16 years. Under her direction, the vocal choir continues to present a diverse array of music as worship that is intended to glorify God, support the Scriptures, and stir the congregation to find spiritual meaning inspired by sacred music. Andrus has also initiated and conducted community concerts in Chautauqua County, and currently resumed the Women’s Outreach Choir she established in 2013 bringing musical worship to incarcerated community members and Christmas programs to residents of long-term care facilities.
With a shared passion for visual art as well as music, Andrus, professor emeritus of Buffalo State Art and Design Department, also established Tri-Church’s arts ministry program, Art Discovery, open to all community members.
